Support Specialist

Knowmore Legal Service provides a nationwide service supporting victim-survivors of childhood abuse and the Stolen Generations in accessing legal redress and justice.

We offer free, confidential services to help victim-survivors navigate their compensation and redress options, including through assistance in applying to the National Redress Scheme, Victims of Crime Compensation Schemes, and the Territories Stolen Generation Redress Scheme.

Our team provides financial counselling, social support, and specialised cultural support for First Nations people, with a trauma-informed and culturally safe approach to empower victim-survivors on their path to healing and justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis and short-term support to clients, face to face or by phone.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to minimise the impact of the legal process on clients.
  • Assist clients with referrals to essential services.
  • Conduct outreach, including visits to remote and regional communities.
  • Represent Knowmore in community education and advocacy initiatives.
  • Provide informal debriefing and support to co-workers to enhance wellbeing within a trauma-informed organisational framework.
Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling.
  • 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed support.
  • Cultural competency – experience working respectfully and in a culturally safe way with First Nations communities.
  • Strong teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to self-care and reflective practice.
