Comcare seeks a Senior Legal Adviser to provide high-level legal support to investigations, inspections and other regulatory activity conducted under the WHS Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on evidence gathering, issuing statutory notices and investigation procedures (investigations)
  • Assisting with briefs of evidence preparation (prosecutions)
  • Working closely with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and Inspectors when a prosecution is commenced
  • Facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for inspectors

As a Senior Legal Adviser, you will be responsible for managing your own workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017 and internal Comcare procedures.

Mandatory qualifications include admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory, with five years or more post-admission experience being desirable. Current restricted practicing Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months is also required.

Experience in providing investigation support and conducting prosecutions in a criminal law or regulatory environment will be highly regarded.

Requirements

Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory

Five years or more post-admission experience

Current restricted practicing Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months
