Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Graduate Research Software Developer to join our team at the STFC. As a Graduate Research Software Developer, you will play a key role in the development and maintenance of our national information discovery service, working closely with our technical redevelopment team to design and implement new features and functionality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the current portal through specific projects
  • Contribute to the technical redevelopment team by developing software applications using Django
  • Write systems documentation and create automated testing
  • Ensure the portal is accessible and user-friendly, taking a lead on user interface design
  • Manage content and perform routine data quality checks
  • Develop technical solutions to ensure content is kept secure for the long-term and remains FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable)

Requirements

  • Achieved or be on course to achieve a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of starting employment
  • Interest or experience in software development
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Effective management of digital objects, either in a personal or educational setting
  • Interest or experience in user interface design and development

Desirable Skills

  • A knowledge of and interest in energy research and sustainability
  • Interest in research data management and/or Open Science
