Documentation Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Documentation Specialist to join our team.

This role involves leading the documentation efforts of an engineering team, collaborating closely with developers and designers to create high-quality documentation that meets the needs of our users.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and improving software documentation
  • Collaborating with engineering team members to ensure effective documentation contributions
  • Influencing product development as an expert user, providing valuable insights on product function and design
  • Engaging with user communities to ensure our documentation is user-friendly
  • Encouraging community involvement in and contribution to documentation
  • Standardizing the structure, presentation, style, and language of content across products
  • Collaborating with documentation peers to advance the state of documentation within our organization

Requirements:

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Technical writing experience with a programmer's mindset or programming experience with a strong focus on documentation
  • A record of community engagement in open-source software, documentation, research, or other related fields
  • Sympathy for the challenges and needs of open-source software and its communities
  • Demonstrable technical curiosity and fascination with software technology and its challenges
  • Excellent documentation skills, insight, and enthusiasm
  • Experience in software development contexts; familiarity with Linux, command-line operations, application deployment, system operations, infrastructure management, Git, and documentation markup languages
  • Ability to travel occasionally for events

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Deep technical domain knowledge
  • Open-source community leadership and management
  • User-experience, interaction, or visual design expertise
