Key Position in Student Services

This role is a vital part of our team working together to develop and implement comprehensive program plans for students with challenging needs. We are seeking an individual who can provide psycho-educational and diagnostic services, as well as facilitate transition plans and support staff to address student mental health needs.

Detailed Responsibilities:
  • Psycho-educational assessments for students; socio-emotional behavioral evaluations;
  • Facilitating professional development for educational staff members on various topics related to inclusion and special education policies in the province of Nova Scotia; assisting staff to adapt teaching strategies according to different learning needs including children with chronic school refusal;
  • Multidisciplinary projects concerning children and youth mental health involving liaison with local agencies and professionals;
  • Support for program planning procedures adapting curriculum and creating individualized program plans (IPP).
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in School Psychology or relevant field with considerable experience working in inclusive education environments;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders within the school community;
  • Expertise in analyzing and managing complex behavior plans for both individual and group settings, along with application of MTSS structures using evidence-based practices at three tiers;
  • Familiarity with provincial education policy documents including Inclusive Education Policy, Special Education Policy and guidelines surrounding Code of Conduct and Teacher Assistant roles;
  • Knowledge of assistive technology applications and individualized programs tailored to meet diverse student requirements;
  • Able to create strong bonds among teachers and other staff members enhancing overall team collaboration and operational efficiency through highly effective decision-making and creative problem-solving abilities.
