As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for performing routine tasks in a laboratory setting.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Receipting and processing of specimens;
  • Pre and post analytical specimen handling;
  • Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens;
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry;
  • Assisting Scientists in the Lab as required;
  • Continuous learning of processing requirements of different types of samples for different tests;
  • Staying up to date with processing updates;
  • Respond to result, sample requirements and general queries;
  • Identifying and resolving problems on at the pre-analytic stage.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:

  • Specimen processing and data entry experience;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work as a team;
  • Understanding the importance of following procedures accurately;
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures;
  • Previous laboratory experience and exposure to medical terminology would be desirable, but not essential;
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable.
