Health Information Manager Position Overview

The role of a Health Information Manager is crucial in ensuring the seamless management of clinical records across our organisation. This involves planning, implementation, maintenance, review and auditing of health information processes in accordance with legislation, policy, procedures and national standards.

This position also coordinates and facilitates the release of clinical and non-clinical information in accordance with the appropriate legislation and within defined time frames. Additionally, the Health Information Manager provides support to the Clinical Coding Service by ensuring accurate and timely coding of morbidity data and education to the clinical workforce.

  • Required Qualification: A relevant tertiary qualification and 2 years minimum relevant work experience are necessary for this position.
  • High-level knowledge in Health Information Management, including clinical records management practices (paper and electronic), clinical coding, privacy/confidentiality and release of information/information access are highly valued.
  • Effective time management skills to plan and prioritise tasks to achieve required deadlines are essential.
  • A patient safety and quality care focus and how Health Information Management practices contribute to the organisation's mission and values are key aspects of this role.
  • Active participation in and provision of valuable contributions to a multi-disciplinary team, and creation of a positive culture within the organisation are expected.
  • Understanding of quality standards and systems and maintaining high professional standards in quality and quantity of work, remaining flexible to embrace change are also important.
