Job Description

The role of ICT Monitoring specialist involves the deployment and maintenance of observability systems within a Defence environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining monitoring tools with a primary focus on Elastic Stack and OpenText Operations Bridge Manager (OBM) to provide real-time observability across IT infrastructure and applications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining observability systems using Elastic Stack and OBM.
  • Developing procedures and tools to enhance the management and support of monitoring environments.
  • Setting up and configuring Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and Operations Bridge Manager (OBM), including component installation and integration.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and visualizing metrics, logs, traces, and events from various systems to ensure full-stack observability.
  • Designing and maintaining dashboards, alerts, and reports tailored for IT operations, development, and security teams.
  • Monitoring system performance proactively, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing configurations for efficiency and scalability.
  • Providing technical support, issue resolution, and collaborating with other teams for continuous improvement.
  • Implementing and managing security configurations including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation on configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, and proven experience in a Monitoring and Observability-focused ICT role.

Hands-on experience with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and Operations Bridge Manager is essential.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, excellent communication and collaboration skills are also required.

Primary work location is Mitchell, ACT, with occasional access to other Defence sites within Canberra may be required.
