The position of Youth Health Specialist is available within our Metropolitan Youth Health team. The role is focused on providing high-quality, trauma-informed case management and psychosocial support to young people.
This specialist will engage with families, health professionals, and community partners to improve health outcomes and empower young people in managing their own care. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a range of services including assessment, case planning, psychosocial support, referral, advocacy, and follow-up for young people with complex needs.
- Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed case management and psychosocial support aligned with the MYH Model of Care.
- Collaborate with families, health professionals, and community partners to improve health outcomes and empower young people in managing their own care.
- Contribute to service development and improvement through evaluation, data collection, research, and implementation of best practice standards and policies.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to students and staff, supporting a culture of professional growth, cultural sensitivity, and continuous learning.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- An appropriate social work degree or equivalent qualification eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, able to engage effectively with diverse populations and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience providing assessment, case planning, psychosocial support, referral, advocacy, and follow-up for young people with complex needs.
- A solid understanding of adolescent psychosocial development, youth health issues, mandatory reporting, information sharing, duty of care, and consumer rights.
- Awareness of social determinants affecting vulnerable groups, including young people under guardianship and those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, to ensure culturally appropriate health services.
