Mental Health Peer Support Worker

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Mental Health Peer Support Worker, where you will draw upon your lived experience to provide recovery-oriented interventions, lived experience counseling, and advocacy to consumers, carers, and multidisciplinary staff.

About the Role

In this rewarding role, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate recovery through the development of skills, strengths, and capacity for successful independent community living.

You will be responsible for working with consumers in both individual and group settings, utilizing your personal experience to provide support, guidance, and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide recovery-oriented interventions, lived experience counseling, and advocacy to consumers, carers, and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized plans for consumers.
  • Facilitate group sessions to promote social connections, skills development, and community engagement.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Certificate IV in Peer Work (or enrolled in and currently studying).
  • Personal lived experience of a mental illness, with willingness and demonstrated ability to utilize the lived experience to support others.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Recent experience as a peer worker in a mental health setting (student placement experience will be considered).
