Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Workshop Technician - Engine Specialist to join our team at Cummins Inc. in Darwin, Australia. As a key member of our service team, you will be responsible for completing diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds on engine products in a service workshop under limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Complex Repair Procedures: Apply documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools.
  2. Engine Disassembly and Reassembly: Disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble engines and/or engine components.
  3. Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance based on assessment of engines.
  4. Diagnostic Support: Assist more experienced technicians with diagnostics and development of repair plans for engines in the workshop.
  5. Documentation and Reporting: Complete required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
  6. Training and Development: Complete training in line with skill and business requirements.
  7. Work Area Maintenance: Maintain work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
  8. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to all relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation and report any issues/incidents to their supervisor.

  6. Diagnostics Application: Translate customer complaints to develop troubleshooting plan; troubleshoot issues following guided workflows, procedures, specialized equipment such as mechanical and electronic service tools, and diagnoses computer software to isolate failed components to enable a successful repair; validate repair by duplicating complaint to ensure it has been resolved; document results of troubleshooting in business systems to communicate what has been done for payment and historical tracking.
  7. Electronic Service Tool Application: Identify the suite of available hardware and software tools required for a service event; utilize the appropriate electronic tool set to maintain the product or diagnose and troubleshoot an issue; interpret electronic tool results or recommendations to determine next steps for service resolution.
  8. Engine Systems Interactions: Interpret and analyze the interactions of internal and external electrical and mechanical systems (exhaust, heating, cooling, fuel systems, driveline, aftertreatment, controls, sensors, etc.) by applying tools, service publications (Cummins, Original Equipment Manufacturer) and taking measurements to efficiently and correctly diagnose and repair.
  9. Product Repair and Maintenance: Repair and maintain mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools within standard repair time to ensure a quality repair; disassemble and assemble engines or power generators following guidelines, using required tools to ensure a clean and organized environment; inspect and replace parts and components following re-use guidelines to minimize customers' cost of ownership; perform progressive damage checks following guidelines to restore to pre-failure condition.
  10. Service Documentation: Create and verify customer, equipment, and technical information; capture specific data using required service tools; follow procedures and document required information in the service management system in order to have an accurate record of the work done.
  11. Technical Escalation: Obtain product technical issue information and utilize available resources including data management tools; elevate issues to a higher level of expertise, balancing timeliness of customer response with investigation efforts; capture all troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database in order to ensure seamless transitions and accurate response to ticket resolution in a timely manner.

Education, Licenses, and Certifications
  1. Apprentice Trained Engine Technician: Preferably an apprentice-trained engine technician.
  2. Vocational Diploma: Hold a vocational diploma from a relevant technical institution.
  3. Locally Valid Driving Permit: Possess a locally valid driving permit.
  4. Licensing for Export Controls or Sanctions Regulations: This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience

Intermediate level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products is required.
