Reliability Engineer Job Description

BlueScope is a global leader in steel manufacturing, with a strong presence in 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our greatest strength, and we're committed to ensuring their safety, success, and wellbeing. We're innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society today and in the future.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Reliability Engineer to join our Paint Finishing Department (PFD) Maintenance team at our Port Kembla Springhill Manufacturing facility. As part of our Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions, and services to our export and domestic customers.

The painting and finishing department at Springhill is the final process in the manufacture of Colorbond, where coils of steel are painted with our world-leading Colorbond coating process and then packaged and dispatched to our Australian and international customers.

This rare opportunity welcomes engineering disciplines from Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics, with a background in heavy industrial/manufacturing maintenance. Reporting to the PFD Asset manager, in this role, you will operate within a multi-skilled team focusing on the delivery of sustained improvement in process uptime and unit cost reduction to our plant assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor maintenance team members by identifying and closing technical knowledge gaps.
  • Provide automation control system technical support, advanced problem-solving, and fault-finding.
  • Analyse plant and equipment performance data for patterns and ensure recurring problems are resolved and effective solutions are institutionalised.
  • Lead and facilitate multi-disciplined teams to identify and implement asset and cost improvement projects.
  • Supervise maintenance activities and strive for business improvements and manufacturing excellence.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve the maintenance strategy and capital project plans to increase reliability and minimise cost.
  • Identify and lead cost reduction activities by implementing strategies to improve the efficiency of the R&M spend, develop and update maintenance lifecycle plans for critical equipment.
  • Build effective relationships to drive the continuous reliability of our HSM assets.

Requirements

  • A degree qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a well-versed industrial tradesperson with a Diploma of Engineering.
  • A commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself, your team, and others.
  • Experience working in a similar industry within Maintenance, with a strong focus on defect elimination and equipment reliability.
  • Experience or exposure pending your engineering discipline with fault-finding PLCs and motor control systems.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a manufacturing team, to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling, and people demands.
