Aboriginal Youth Support Worker Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Aboriginal Youth Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed person who is committed to delivering culturally appropriate support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

The role involves working directly with vulnerable families who are at risk of further escalation in the child protection system, providing holistic care and support to meet their physical, emotional, and social needs.

  • Support families to maintain stability and prevent further involvement with the child protection system.
  • Work collaboratively with other service providers to ensure a comprehensive response to family needs.

The successful applicant will possess a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma and its effects on Aboriginal persons and their families. They will also have a demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices.

Essential criteria for this role include:

  • Minimum Cert III in Community Services or similar qualification.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols and practices.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including shift work, weekends and awake and sleepover shifts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
  • Current unrestricted drivers' licence and Reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Willingness to obtain a national criminal history check.

Desirable criteria for this role include:

  • Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
