
Youth Justice Advocate

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Caseworker to join our team, working collaboratively with individuals, partners and communities to empower young Queenslanders, particularly the most vulnerable, to make positive life choices and access opportunities.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop and implement initiatives, programs, and interventions that:
- Enhance community safety and reduce youth offending rates
- Improve the wellbeing of children and young people within and transitioning from the youth justice system
- Reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the youth justice system
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a statutory environment. They will be responsible for managing dual roles, including monitoring young offenders' compliance with court orders and intervening to address issues that may lead to re-offending.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, using culturally appropriate, collaborative, and evidence-based assessment and intervention skills to reduce re-offending. They will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for victims, young offenders, their families, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Court Work:
The Caseworker will prepare and present verbal and written reports to the Children's Court on behalf of the Chief Executive. This will involve conducting pre- and post-court interviews, preparing quality pre-sentence reports, affidavits, and other relevant documentation to support best practice outcomes.
Record Keeping and Information Management:
The Caseworker will also undertake record keeping and information management tasks to ensure accountability and actively participate in continuing professional development activities to improve their ability to contribute to organisational goals.
Statutory Delegations:
The Caseworker has various statutory delegations under the Youth Justice Act 1992.
