About the Role

The Koori Mental Health Liaison Officer plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal youth and their families in accessing culturally safe mental health care.

Working across the Infant Child and Youth Mental Health Service Directorate, the KMHLO collaborates with leadership and staff to develop services that promote better outcomes for Aboriginal youth.

The KMHLO focuses on the Youth teams, Adolescent Inpatient Unit, and newly built Youth Prevention and Recovery Care Centre.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development of culturally sensitive policies and practices across the division
  • Supporting Aboriginal consumers and their carers to understand mental health treatment options
  • Facilitating partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations
  • Providing education and training to hospital staff and community

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander consumers and maintaining positive relationships with local communities
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society, and kinship networks
