About the Role

Ballarat Health Services is seeking a skilled Mental Health Clinician to join our team in a critical role that bridges the gap between the community and mental health services. Our Access & Triage Service is a 24/7 operation that provides comprehensive and responsive care to clients, their carers, and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments, including substance use evaluations, to identify individuals at risk or in crisis.
  • Work collaboratively across three core service delivery areas: Telephone Triage, Acute Response Team, and Mental Health Emergency Department (ECATT).
  • Develop and implement short-term clinical treatment plans that address biological, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families.
  • Engage with family members, carers, or significant others in the assessment and treatment process, where appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Work a roster that meets the service's operational needs.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurses: Hold a degree or diploma from a recognized nursing institution and be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Social Workers: Possess a degree from a recognized educational facility for social workers.
  • Occupational Therapists: Hold a degree from a recognized educational facility for occupational therapists and be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Psychologists: Hold a degree from a recognized educational facility and be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Recent experience in mental health settings, particularly community-based care.
  • Desirable skills include experience in psychiatric telephone triage, crisis assessment, and mental health emergency department work.
  • Strong mental health and risk assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of the recovery model and its application in engaging with consumers and families.
  • Understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
  • Experience in community liaison and network development.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and substance use impact on mental health.
