Operations Specialist Job

We are seeking a seasoned leader to fill the role of Operations Specialist for our rail networks in Central Queensland.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and safety, leading a high-performing team, and optimising train control operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Champion a safe working culture, ensuring the highest standards in health, safety, and well-being across operations.
  • Lead and coach a high-performance team to achieve business objectives and foster positive work and customer relationships.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of train control strategies and change management initiatives.
  • Effective labour resource management including workforce planning, succession planning, performance management, leave management as well as competency and capability development aligned to the overall business goals, objectives and train control strategy.
  • Manage and mitigate impact of events through coordination of emergency response and recovery efforts.
  • Analyse data, identify opportunities and establish plans for continuous improvement in safe working, business processes and systems / technology and collaborate to implement plans.
Requirements:
  • Proven line leadership experience in large-scale logistics or heavy industrial organisations is mandatory.
  • Safeworking Theory Qualification is highly regarded.
  • Understanding of both above and below rail control is essential for success in the position.
  • Minimum Certificate IV / Diploma in Frontline Management or equivalent is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills, including team coaching, safety management, and change management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing abilities.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in workforce development and succession planning.
  • Knowledge of train control operations, planning, and safe working systems (or ability to learn).
  • Resilient with the ability to analyse complex information and solve problems collaboratively.
