General Surgery Fellow Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a General Surgery Fellow. The successful candidate will participate in the provision, development, and maintenance of an effective, efficient, and equitable clinical service to hospital clients under the supervision of consultant surgeons in the unit.

The Fellow will be primarily responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre. They will also supervise trainees and junior doctors performing ward-based or emergency department consultations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in ongoing educational activities to enhance professional growth and development
  • Provide exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) with reference to effective communication and courtesy when interacting with patients, relatives, general public, and healthcare colleagues
  • Adhere to contemporary human resource management practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity, and anti-discrimination policies
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and respect for all patients, carers, and staff
Mandatory Requirements
  • Vaccinated against certain vaccine-preventable diseases as outlined in health directives
  • Hold Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent qualification
  • Hold MBBS or equivalent qualification registrable with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Specialist Registration in General Surgery with the Medical Board of Australia required at commencement of employment
