Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Specialist

About the Role
The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and compassionate First Nation's Engagement Worker to enhance cultural competency and improve the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at AOD sites across QLD.
This is a permanent, part-time (15.2hrs per week) position located in Red Hill, QLD. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Centre Managers to provide cultural support to participants of the Brisbane AOD Centre, increase referral pathways and access to Indigenous Elders and Indigenous organisations, and lead discussion within the management team to strengthen culture in service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to, source and/or develop appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources and training.
- Lead &/or support Yarning or Learning Circles that align with the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework elements.
- Conduct regular inspections of sites to ensure they are culturally safe.
- Provide support and/or input to the clinical team to ensure case plans address cultural needs.
- Develop strategies and timeframes to engage and communicate the Cultural Capability and Competency Framework elements at a site level.
Requirements
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Relevant degree and experience or less formal qualifications with specialised skills.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people and ability to influence leaders in this space.
- Experience in dealing with complex and diverse issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and methods of providing culturally appropriate solutions.
