Job Description

The Office of the Queensland Ombudsman (OQO) is an independent agency that investigates complaints about Queensland government agencies and improves the quality of public administration.

The Executive Director (Corporate Strategy) plays a pivotal role within the OQO, providing strategic advice to the Ombudsman and Executive Leadership Team regarding governance, change, and risk management.

The role also involves leading an effective enabling services function, driving major initiatives to support continual agency growth and transformation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-level strategic advice based on exemplary values of integrity and ethics.
  • Lead major change initiatives to support a growing or evolving organisation.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve governance, change, and risk management.
  • Lead and manage multi-functional teams across Finance, Facilities Services, Information Services, Human Resources, Policy and Projects, Governance, Communications, and Administration.
  • Support the Ombudsman by preparing reports and submissions, ensuring alignment with government priorities.
Requirements:
  • Strategic leadership: Proven capacity to provide high-level strategic advice based on exemplary values of integrity and ethics.
  • Change management expertise: Experience in leading major change initiatives to support a growing or evolving organisation.
  • Corporate Services team leadership: Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary teams across the corporate services function.
  • High-level stakeholder engagement skills: Proven success in communicating and negotiating with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Sophisticated communication skills: Sound understanding of the public sector environment and public sector reporting.
  • Organisational and forward-planning capacity: Advanced planning, prioritisation, and resource management skills.
