This role is part of our Public Sector Team, which operates across multiple locations.

Current Opportunity

As a Senior Consultant within our Risk Advisory Service line, you will collaborate closely with Partners and Senior Management to execute a variety of internal audits, management assessments, and provide strategic advice to clients.

Your client portfolio will primarily consist of State Government Organizations, spanning various Government Clusters, with opportunities to engage with Local and Federal Government Entities, Not-For-Profits, and private sector clients.

This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, autonomy, client engagement, and direct interaction with Partners for mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting a variety of internal audits, business risk assurance, and process improvement projects in alignment with BDO's methodologies and protocols, including report writing and direct client communication.
  • Advising clients on policy, procedural, process, system, and control enhancements through the internal audit process.
  • Engaging in business development initiatives such as networking, drafting proposals, and presenting to potential clients.
  • Preparing scoping documents in response to client inquiries, generating reports for completed projects, and assisting in the creation of new methodologies and service offerings.
  • Collaborating with Partners and Senior Managers to coordinate work schedules across the practice.
  • Mentoring junior staff to foster their professional development.
  • Maintaining client relationships and collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify future business opportunities.

Qualifications for Success

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in Internal Audit or Risk Consulting. Your analytical and investigative skills, combined with a logical approach to risk assessment and management, will distinguish you.

Additionally, the following qualifications and skills will be advantageous:

  • A degree in accounting or a related field, along with relevant certifications or qualifications (or in the process of obtaining), such as CAANZ or IIA Membership.
  • A solid understanding of internal audit and risk management practices and standards (IIA and ISO31000).
  • Experience in conducting internal audits, risk assessments, and reviews of risk management frameworks.
  • Experience working with public sector clients.
  • Familiarity with internal auditing of financial processes and operational controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exposure to Enterprise Resource Management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, TechOne).
