Teaching Opportunity in Chemistry and Biochemistry

Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a qualified Lecturer to join the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality personalized education, teaching activities for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, laboratory classes, and assessment. They will also assume administrative tasks associated with normal teaching duties, developing and supporting academic programs, and working with the academic team in program change and innovation. Additionally, they will mentor and support students on academic matters and supervise higher degree research students.

  • About the Role:
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences in chemistry and biochemistry, focusing on analytical, environmental, inorganic, or general chemistry, and/or areas of biochemistry.
  • Develop and implement curriculum materials, assessments, and evaluation methods that align with departmental standards and university policies.
  • Mentor and support students on academic matters, providing guidance on academic expectations, research opportunities, and career development.
  • Supervise higher degree research students, providing guidance on research design, methodology, and data analysis.
  • Participate in academic committees, contributing to the development of departmental policies, procedures, and strategic plans.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be suitable for this position, you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in tertiary teaching in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry.
  • Able to contribute to teaching, associated administrative duties, coordination, and curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to leading-edge/best practice education, including blended learning formats, online teaching, and the use of case studies, role-plays, and/or simulations in the learning environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of research in the university context, capacity in the use of various research methods, and a track record of publishing in discipline-relevant quality academic journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract research funding from external sources or contribute to funded research projects.
  • An earned doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a related field.
  • A teaching qualification.
