Upper GI Surgery Fellowship Opportunity

The Upper GI Surgery Fellow role is a 12-month part-time position within the public hospital, offering the chance to gain expertise in upper GI surgery, encompassing oesophagogastric, HPB, bariatric surgery, and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

This fellowship is designed for surgical fellows or general surgeons seeking additional experience in upper GI surgery.

Fellowship Objectives and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Medical Services and the Director of Surgical Training to oversee, support, and coordinate registrars in surgical specialty departments.
  • Participate in surgical skill courses and opportunities for clinical and basic research.
Requirements
  • Possess personal integrity and commitment to the Philosophy, Mission, and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
  • Hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Possess Fellowship of the RACS in General Surgery or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award, or have completed advanced surgical training intending to sit for the fellowship exam.
  • Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices aligned with scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge in Upper GI Surgery through clinical practice and participation in quality assurance activities.
  • Exhibit high-level interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Show commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviour appropriate for a Senior Medical practitioner.
