Join Our Team

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Environmental Health Specialist to join our Public Health and Environment team. As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will contribute to the monitoring and regulation of food and health premises across the city to support the safety, health, and wellbeing of our community.

This role offers hands-on experience in environmental health matters and is ideal for a recent graduate looking to launch their local government career.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections and regulatory actions for food premises, skin penetration businesses, public pools, cooling towers, and boarding houses.
  • Assist in investigations of environmental issues and major pollution incidents.
  • Support the implementation of educational programs on public and environmental health.
  • Provide input on Development Applications involving contaminated land or environmental concerns.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and represent Council in formal meetings when required.
  • Liaise with external agencies and community stakeholders on public health matters.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and uphold legislative compliance.
Requirements
  • Recently completed a tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or Public Health.
  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Food Act, and Public Health Act.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional approach to regulatory duties.
  • Excellent problem-solving and investigative skills.
  • A current Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Prior experience in public or environmental health (paid or unpaid) is highly desirable.
