Opportunity Summary

We are seeking an experienced Wholesale Trading Manager to join our team. As a key member of our leadership group, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day energy trading operations, systems, and reporting. This role requires strategic input into our Energy Trading Risk Management policy and software solutions, as well as helping establish the initial Wholesale Trading Team.

The Role

  • Provide strategic input to our Energy Trading Risk Management Framework, ensuring regulatory compliance oversight for the Energy Retail business.
  • Contribute to the development of financial risk appetite, retail load forecasting models, and impacts of Retail strategy/PPAs on risk, governance, and compliance.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders to manage approval processes for Energy Retail products and governance requirements.
  • Implement retail deal capture systems and oversee Retail transfer pricing for Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers.
  • Manage daily front office trading and portfolio risk management, as well as being a key stakeholder for middle and back office functions.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Wholesale Trading Team focused on financial risk, governance, compliance, and supporting the Energy strategy objectives.

Requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline, such as mathematics, finance, engineering, or economics.
  • Extensive experience (5-10+ years) in a similar wholesale markets leadership role, managing a sizable retail portfolio in the National Electricity Market (NEM), trading ASX futures, OTC financial derivatives, green Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and all green certificates.
  • Expertise in Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) software solutions, managing front, middle, and back office trading functions, negotiating International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and Credit Support Annex (CSA) agreements, and understanding Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) requirements and energy prudentials.
  • Familiarity with complex C&I products (spot following, progressive purchasing, corporate PPAs, sleeving) and behind-the-meter energy solutions (solar, battery energy storage systems, demand response, virtual power plants).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and drive process improvements, aligning with Veolia's mission.
