Job Summary:

The Aboriginal Homelessness Case Worker role involves providing case management, information, and advocacy to individuals with support and housing needs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This position requires establishing and maintaining effective referral networks to ensure access to various services and products for clients, preventing homelessness.

- Provide culturally safe case management services to clients.">

Requirements:

  • ">
  • Relevant qualifications in social science or related field and/or relevant equivalent experience in supporting those experiencing barriers to stable housing.">
  • Demonstrated experience in case coordination of people with complex support needs.">
  • An understanding of the private rental/social housing market and knowledge of the rights of clients as tenants.">
  • Sound administrative skills in maintaining case notes, updating data systems, and effectively managing time.">
  • An understanding of, or demonstrated ability, to work with human service agencies.">
  • A thorough understanding of culturally sensitive practices when working with members of the Aboriginal community.">
  • An ability to use initiative, be self-motivated, and actively contribute within a team.">
  • Good knowledge of the use of Microsoft and database programs.">
  • An understanding of the issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.">
  • Ability to communicate sensitively to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.">
  • Evidence of full COVID vaccination.">
  • Current police check undertaken by the relevant authorities.">
  • Current Working with Children Check.">
  • Current driver's license.">
  • This is a role where being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement."]

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. They will also possess strong problem-solving skills, with the capacity to think critically and creatively.

Working Conditions:

This is a fixed-term position, with a 12-month contract. The successful applicant will be required to work at our Lismore office, with occasional travel to other sites across the NSW Far North Coast region.
