Senior Product Owner Job Description

This is a challenging and rewarding role for an experienced product owner to lead separate streams of a high-impact modernisation program.

  • This includes managing complex technical initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams, and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in product ownership, experience working on large-scale digital transformation or modernisation programs, and hands-on experience with Agile delivery tools.

We are seeking two Senior Product Owners, each to lead a separate stream of the program. Each stream requires hands-on product ownership, including AWS containerisation, version and database upgrades, and deployments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the product backlog for the modernisation program, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, and technical challenges proactively.
  • Advocate for modern engineering practices, security standards, and performance optimisation.
  • Monitor KPIs and success metrics post-deployment to ensure business value is achieved.

Stream One – Fines Management squad

In this stream, the successful candidate will partner with technical leads to design and execute upgrades and deployments, including:

  • Migrating existing batches to AWS Cloud native systems.
  • AWS containerisation for scalable application hosting.
  • Upgrading Oracle databases to Amazon RDS.
  • Migrating Oracle database to AWS RDS with minimal downtime and data integrity assurance.
  • Ensuring the Fines Product is increasingly and effectively monitored and protected by expanding use of CloudWatch.

Stream Two – Overdue Fines squad

In this stream, the successful candidate will partner with technical leads to design and execute upgrades and deployments, including:

  • AWS containerisation for scalable application hosting.
  • Upgrading PHP from 7.3 to 8.5, ensuring compatibility and performance improvements.
  • Upgrading PostgreSQL databases with minimal downtime and data integrity assurance.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years' experience as a Product Owner in large-scale digital transformation or modernisation programs.
  • Proven track record delivering complex upgrades and platform migrations.
  • Strong technical understanding of relevant technologies and activities described above.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile delivery tools (Jira, Confluence, or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with ability to balance technical constraints and business priorities.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in cloud security best practices and DevOps pipelines.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD automation tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines).
  • Understanding of system performance tuning and monitoring tools.
