Job Overview

The Senior Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing civil packages of works within the Tonkin Extension Alliance team.

This position demands comprehensive onsite engineering services and technical leadership to ensure the safe delivery of projects, adhering to safety, environmental, specification, design, and contractual requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead technical design reviews and engineering calculations for major civil works including roads, bridges, drainage, and earthworks.
  • Manage project delivery schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to guarantee timely completion.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality assurance checks to maintain construction standards.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, method statements, and construction drawings.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, constructability issues, and technical challenges.
  • Implement risk management strategies and ensure compliance with AS/NZS standards and specifications.
  • Oversee surveying activities, setting out, and dimensional control for construction works.
  • Lead value engineering initiatives to optimize project outcomes and cost efficiency.
  • Chair technical meetings and provide regular progress reporting to senior management.
  • Ensure adherence to our safety management system and environmental obligations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with CPEng or RPEQ registration).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with stakeholder management experience.
  • Preferably 8+ years' onsite experience on major infrastructure projects (highways, bridges, marine works).
  • Strong understanding of Australian construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Passionate about excellent health, safety, environmental, and quality outcomes.
  • Motivation to achieve value-for-money results and continuous improvement.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of contract administration and commercial management principles.
