Microscopy Specialist Role

The Adelaide Microscopy centre is seeking a skilled microscopy specialist to manage, train and maintain the ThermoFisher Glacios CryoTEM within our facility.

This role will involve developing protocols for sample preparation, data acquisition and processing as well as providing expertise and advice to researchers and postgraduate students on using cryo-electron microscopy techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, train and maintain the ThermoFisher Glacios CryoTEM
  • Develop protocols for sample preparation, data acquisition and processing
  • Provide expertise and advice to researchers and postgraduate students on using cryo-electron microscopy techniques
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes
  • Deliver results both individually and as part of a team

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expertise in operating cryo-electron microscopy and applying it to solve research problems in biological and biomedical sciences
  • Demonstrated expertise in single particle analysis (SPA) workflow, including optimizing sample preparation protocols, operating cryo-electron microscopy systems for sample screening, data collection, and processing/interpretation of data
  • Strong background in using tools such as cryoSPARC and Relion to process complex cryo-electron microscopy datasets
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes
