Refugee Mental Health Support Specialist

We offer a unique opportunity to work with asylum seekers and refugees in the Australian community, providing culturally safe and trauma-informed support.

This role involves delivering clinical assessments, support & evidence-based therapy to individuals and families. Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering clinical expertise to support clients from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds
  • Assessing clients' cognitive, emotional, behavioural and daily living capabilities through formal and informal assessments.
  • Providing skill-building and coping strategies through individual and group therapy to support clients through major life transitions
  • Tracking client progress and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure ongoing, effective support & care.

This position will also provide training and guidance on therapeutic approaches and incident management. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping clients navigate life transitions, improve their mental health, and achieve their goals while waiting for visa decisions.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology with registration or eligibility for registration as a psychologist in Australia.
  • Clinical or forensic psychology experience, with a strong understanding of clinical governance frameworks.
  • Experience working with CALD and diverse backgrounds
  • Skilled in collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams and external support agencies.
  • Experienced in delivering flexible, client-focused interventions, including outreach and e-health services.
  • Ability to implement client and family-centred approaches, with cultural sensitivity towards diverse communities.

The successful candidate will undergo probity checks, including a National Criminal History Record Check and VIC Working with Children Check.
