Health Promotion Specialist

This role is focused on planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating Aboriginal-specific health promotion programs.

The position will be responsible for delivering key priorities outlined in local, state and national strategies for HIV, STIs, hepatitis C and hepatitis B.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan, implement, evaluate and coordinate Aboriginal-specific health promotion programs focused on HIV, STIs and viral hepatitis.
  • Deliver on key priorities outlined in local, state and national strategies for HIV, STIs, hepatitis C and hepatitis B.
  • Support culturally safe, community-led approaches to program design and delivery.
  • Build and strengthen collaborative relationships between SHBBV services, Aboriginal-led organisations, and other sectors working with Aboriginal communities.

Candidates must have relevant qualifications in a health-related field and/or experience as a health worker / health promotion/project worker in government or non-government sectors. Knowledge of current HIV, sexual health and hepatitis prevention, testing and treatment; understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly young Aboriginal people are also required.

Additional skills and qualities desired include:

  • Ability to initiate, develop, deliver, evaluate and report on health-related projects.
  • Experience in identifying, negotiating and building effective partnerships with key Aboriginal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a team and with minimal supervision to deliver outcomes.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise competing interests and meet deadlines.
  • Current NSW driver's licence and willingness to travel.

Requirements
