
Risk Governance Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of governance and risk frameworks, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Manage and chair the Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC), providing strategic advice and guidance to Council members.
- Oversight of statutory compliance, corporate registers, and integrated planning/reporting obligations to ensure regulatory adherence.
- Strategic management of the Council's insurance portfolio, including high-level claims handling.
- Serve as the Public Officer and manage Freedom of Information (GIPA) and Privacy matters, ensuring confidentiality and discretion.
- Provide high-quality governance advice to Executive, Managers, and Councillors, supporting informed decision-making.
- Foster a strong, values-based team culture through leadership and mentorship, promoting staff development and well-being.
About You:
To be considered for this role, you will need tertiary qualifications in governance, law, policy, risk management, or business, combined with demonstrated experience in governance, legal, or administrative roles involving risk management practices.
- Proven track record of working in Local Government or other government bodies, leveraging expertise to drive positive outcomes.
- Post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline can be an asset, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and motivate staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in high-pressure situations.
