Job Opportunity: Governance & Legal Advisor

This role presents a chance to play a pivotal part in enhancing governance frameworks and providing expert legal advice to drive strategic objectives.

The Role Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the effectiveness, transparency, and robustness of governance, quality, and risk programs across the organisation.
  • Providing in-house legal guidance, coordinating external legal advice, and contributing to best practice compliance and governance.
  • Coordinating the lease and land tenure portfolio, including drafting, negotiating, and reviewing agreements.
  • Offering advice, training, and guidance to staff on governance and legal matters.
  • Managing complaints and investigations in line with the Council's Complaints Management Policy.
  • Preparing high-quality reports, policies, procedures, and briefings to support informed decision-making.

About You

We seek a dedicated professional who possesses:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Law or a relevant discipline.
  • Admission as an Australian Lawyer.
  • A current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial/community leasing and complaints handling.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in local government (desirable but not essential).
