About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned electrical engineer to lead our building engineering services team in Melbourne. This senior role involves designing, managing, and supervising projects while working with a global engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the group leader in monitoring engineering/CAD resource requirements for each project.
  • Conduct detailed design, tender, and contract on-site supervision to completion, ensuring projects meet design briefs and deadlines.
  • Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant and of consistent quality.
  • Maintain regular in-house design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
  • Manage contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Foster excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high satisfaction levels and repeat business.
  • Pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Identify and implement personal training/CPD requirements.
  • Participate in site works as required.
  • Develop and maintain good relations with industry networks, clients, government agencies, sub-consultants, and construction contractors.
  • Coordinate design activities, processes, and technical standards within the MEP and CSA services.
  • Undertake technical reviews of projects to ensure successful delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Consulting experience is essential.
  • Mission critical design/data centre design experience is beneficial.
  • A good understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Visio, and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Familiarity with electrical proprietary software such as ETAP, Vipcodia, Power Cad etc.
  • Successful project management experience in the MEP sector is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting, and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
  • An attitude and commitment to HDR's employee-owned culture.
