The Role
We are seeking an experienced Intake and Referral Practitioner to join our counselling team in Fortitude Valley on a 12-month full-time contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and knowledgeable practitioner to assist in the provision of high-quality intake, screening, and referral services within the counselling framework of Centacare's Family and Relationship Services. The role will offer opportunities to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing incoming client referrals, including referrals from key partners and stakeholders, and assessing eligibility and suitability.
  • Completing client intake, initial needs assessments, risk assessments, and safety planning as required.
  • Providing information and referring clients to internal and external programs, including counselling for individuals, couples, children, and families, group education, and parenting programs.
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution.
  • Well-developed understanding of Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, as well as the issues and impacts on families engaged in these systems.
  • Demonstrated articulation of a well-developed practice framework for domestic and family violence and its nexus with child safety, family law, and mental health.
  • Experience in intake, risk assessment, case management, and referral pathways, including crisis intervention and safety planning.
  • Well-developed written work, including report writing, case notes, data collection, and computer literacy skills.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for clients' needs with other statutory organisations and departments.
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications are essential.
  • Current Blue Card or eligibility to apply.
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check or successful application.
  • Working rights in Australia.
