Key role in supporting the delivery of Science curriculums across secondary schools.

This technical position is responsible for ensuring all laboratory and science equipment are functional, well-maintained, and safe for intended use.

The Science Technician collaborates closely with Science teaching staff to support lesson delivery, including experiment preparation, classroom safety, and student engagement.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the setup of practical lessons and experiments.
  • Ensuring student safety during practical sessions, especially when using hazardous materials or equipment.
  • Leading or co-leading demonstrations and experiments where needed.
  • Conducting safety inductions for students and providing safety demonstrations.
  • Providing support to relief and non-Science staff.
  • First aid and emergency response procedures.

Additional Duties:

  • Equipment maintenance and management.
  • Chemical handling and storage compliance.
  • Resource management and procurement.
  • Stocktaking and inventory management.
  • Performance of risk assessments and contributing to safety policy development.

Requirements:

  1. Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or higher (preferred).
  2. Demonstrated experience in a laboratory or technical environment.
  3. Strong understanding of WHS legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
  4. Knowledge of chemical and biological safety practices.
  5. A service-oriented approach with strong organisational and communication skills.
  6. Ability to conduct risk assessments and contribute to safety policy development.

Selection Criteria:

The ideal candidate must be an active member of an evangelical Christian Church and demonstrate their personal faith in Jesus Christ as God and Saviour.

A high level of technical skill and the desire to work within a Christian team setting are essential requirements.
