Job Title

The role of a Laboratory Assistant is pivotal in delivering the science curriculum across Secondary Schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the science team with lesson setup and experiment preparation.
  • Conducting student experiments and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Leading or co-leading demonstrations and experiments as required.
  • Providing SDS handling, labelling, and safety inductions for students.
  • Delivering safety demonstrations for junior students.
  • Monitoring student safety during practical sessions, particularly when using hazardous materials or equipment.
  • Contributing to teaching activities in secondary and primary science-related projects.
  • Collaborating with staff to plan engaging events like Orientation Day, Open Day, and the School Fete.
  • Offering classroom and experimental support to relief and non-science staff members.
  • Administering first aid when necessary.
Equipment and Resource Management:
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive maintenance schedule for laboratory equipment.
  • Carrying out simple repairs and arranging external servicing as needed.
  • Ensuring all equipment is safe, tested, tagged, and properly maintained.
