About the Branch

The Decommissioning Branch is leading and shaping the government's offshore oil and gas decommissioning policy and regulatory reforms. We play a key role in the government's Net Zero ambitions, ensuring that end-of-life oil and gas infrastructure is decommissioned appropriately.

Our Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice to government on policy, commercial, and regulatory options to ensure oil and gas companies fulfill their decommissioning obligations
  • Develop policy related to financial assurance, decommissioning regulations, and decommissioning planning
  • Develop complex policy reform and work with stakeholders to build support for implementation
  • Engage across industry, states, and territories, and internationally to progress best practice decommissioning
  • Provide advice and guidance to support offshore oil and gas decommissioning outcomes
The Opportunity

We have multiple current or expected vacancies at the Assistant Manager (Executive Level 1) level across the branch. These roles will support the finalization and release of the decommissioning roadmap, implementation of actions under the roadmap, and preparation for and response to imminent insolvency events in offshore petroleum projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Harness the expertise of your team to progress sensitive and complex issues
  • Help shape the work program for your section
  • Support the Manager and Senior Executive to deliver outcomes
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring for peers and junior staff
  • Establish and promote positive working relationships with stakeholders
  • Proactively identify and implement process and system improvements to deliver on the work program under tight resources
  • Work with limited direction while displaying flexibility, discretion, and judgment
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. Positions require a Baseline security clearance, and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
