This is a unique opportunity to provide high-quality legal services as part of a team delivering practical, independent, and strategic legal advice and representation on complex child protection matters.

The role involves working with various stakeholders, including departmental staff, courts, and community service centres across the state.

Mandatory Requirements
  • Admission as a Barrister-at-Law or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland is essential for this position.
  • A valid C-class driver's licence is required for travel purposes.
  • Availability for on-call duties to address out-of-hours emergency legal advice and support is also necessary.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert legal services, including undertaking duties outside regular hours in relation to urgent applications.
  • Provide professional legal advice, support, and representation on behalf of community service centres in emergency applications under the Child Protection Act 1999.
  • Prepare and present high-quality court materials in support of child protection applications and other related matters, such as family law, human rights, adoptions, and criminal law.
  • Coordinate and represent the Director-General's participation in child protection-related legal matters.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure consistent, coordinated, and effective legal services provision.
