Job Description:

This role is an opportunity for a legal professional to provide high-quality, independent legal services to departmental staff.

As a Legal Officer, you will be part of a team delivering practical, independent and strategic legal advice and representation on complex child protection matters.

The position provides an opportunity to contribute to improvements in the child protection litigation system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert independent legal advice, support and representation on behalf of CSSCs in emergency applications under the Child Protection Act 1999.
  • Prepare high-quality material for court on behalf of departmental staff to support applications for child protection orders.
  • Coordinate and represent the Director-General's participation in child protection related legal matters.
  • Establish and maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach to the provision of legal services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Admission or eligibility to gain immediate admission as a Barrister-at-Law or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Possession of a 'C' class driver's licence to undertake travel.

Ability to be on-call to address out-of-hours emergency legal advice and support.
