Job Title: Strategic Accounting Specialist
Job Description:We are seeking a highly skilled accounting professional to join our team as a Strategic Accounting Specialist. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting functions, contributing to the success of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly accruals, general journals, and accounting entries for operating and capital expenditure, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform reconciliations of balance sheet, profit and loss, and subsidiary ledgers, identifying and investigating any discrepancies or irregularities.
- Investigate variances, correct ledger and system errors, and provide training and support to operational staff on cost accounting processes, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
- Assist with the preparation and updating of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and budget variation submissions, providing insightful analysis and recommendations.
- Compile and analyze cost centre, contract expenditure, and operations review reports, identifying trends and areas for optimization.
- Maintain the fixed asset register for accounting and tax purposes, including depreciation schedules and policy updates, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Process creditor claims and support contract and payment workflows in financial systems, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Provide backup support to Accounts Payable and assist the Management Accountant as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Collaborate with operational teams to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data, promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related commercial discipline.
- A basic understanding of accounting standards, journal preparation, and financial reconciliations, with a focus on analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Some exposure to budgeting, reporting, and financial variance analysis, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with financial systems such as general ledger and reporting tools, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating attention to detail and quality control.
