Job Title: Heavy Truck Drivers

Job Description:

Heavy truck drivers are responsible for transporting and delivering cargo or materials across various locations. They operate trucks with a capacity of more than 3 tons, often working in remote areas and driving long distances.

The role requires daily pre- and post-trip inspections to maintain operational safety and record any defects. Additionally, drivers must load and unload cargo with multiple drops, secure proof of deliveries, and return relevant paperwork in a timely manner.

Heavy truck drivers also ensure load restraint is performed according to heavy vehicle load restraint guidelines, maintain radio or telephone contact with the base or supervisor, and complete necessary delivery paperwork efficiently.

They take orders for new deliveries as required, maintain truck logs in accordance with State and Federal regulations, and report any incidents encountered on the road to a dispatcher.

Heavy truck drivers follow accident procedures if an accident occurs, refuel, clean the truck, and wash windows after each trip, keep records of materials and products transported, and plan routes using maps or satellite tracking.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • AQF Certificate II or III
  • Valid Australian heavy truck licence
  • Minimum of 1 year's recent heavy/multi-combination driving experience
  • Sound geographic knowledge of Australia-wide routes
  • Strong focus on safety and customer service with good communication skills
  • Fatigue Management Certificate
  • Able to pass drug and alcohol tests and a pre-employment medical
  • MSIC Card or willingness to obtain one
  • Load restraint certificate
  • Require DG Licence or willingness to obtain one
