Acute Surgery Fellow Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Acute Surgery Fellow to join our team. As a key member of our surgical department, you will be responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre.

This is an exciting opportunity for a newly admitted Fellow into the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons seeking out acute and subacute general surgery exposure prior to commencing independent practice.

About the Role:
  • You will participate in the provision, development, and maintenance of an effective, efficient, and equitable clinical service to hospital clients under the supervision of consultant surgeons in the unit.
  • You will primarily be responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre.
  • You will also be responsible for supervising trainees and junior doctors performing ward based or emergency department consultations.
About You:
  • You must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with reference to effective communication and courtesy when interacting with patients, relatives, general public and health care colleagues.
  • A commitment to participate in on-going educational activities is required.
  • You must have sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour required of a medical practitioner in General Surgery.
  • You must comply with and utilise contemporary human resource managements and practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
Mandatory Requirements:
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases as outlined in the Health Employment Directive.
  • You must hold (or be eligible for) Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or recognised equivalent as determined by RACS.
  • You must have MBBS or equivalent qualification registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • You must have or be eligible for Specialist Registration in General Surgery with the Medical Board of Australia at the commencement of employment.
