Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role within Credit Union Australia's Risk and Business Controls team. As Senior Advisor, Business Controls, you will play a key role in strengthening front-line accountability for risk management, providing thought leadership, advice, and challenge in the management of risks, obligations, and controls.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • You will provide advice and guidance to the Chief Customer Office division on the implementation of the Risk Management Framework, ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage the first-line risk response, supporting the maintenance of current and fit-for-purpose risk profiles, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with the first-line risk community to identify key organisational controls, prioritise testing, recommend improvements, and seek opportunities to streamline and automate.
  • Support teams within each division to identify and manage current and emerging risks, ensuring that all risks are properly assessed and mitigated.
  • Conduct regular control design and effectiveness testing, obligations mapping, and reasonable steps oversight to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in financial services with a strong understanding of operational risk and compliance in the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Risk and Business Controls function, particularly in controls testing and assurance activities.
  • Solid understanding of effective risk governance and reporting requirements for a financial institution.
  • Experience in Retail Banking is highly desirable, as is experience in data analysis and data interrogation.

Qualifications

  • A degree in management, business, finance, or a related discipline is essential.
  • Knowledge of relevant finance industry standards, acts, codes, and legislation (e.g., APRA, Consumer Credit Code, Credit Union Code of Practice, Privacy Act, Trade Practices Act, FSRA) is also essential.
  • A post-graduate qualification in Finance or Risk Management is desirable, as is membership of professional Risk Management and/or Governance Associations.
