Government Affairs Manager

In this pivotal role, you will drive bp's government relations strategy to support Australia's energy ambitions.

Purpose of the Role:
  • Foster public policy advocacy plans aligned with bp Australia's country strategy.
  • Analyze relevant policy and regulatory frameworks federally and in all Australian states (excluding WA), focusing on energy, resources, climate change, environment, and Northern Australia development.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement bp Australia's government relations strategy, including identifying, developing, and managing senior political and government stakeholders, driving engagement plans with senior executive and business SMEs, and proactively framing action plans to emerging political and policy opportunities and risks.
  • Advocate bp's position with legislative and regulatory bodies, in private meetings, and at external events regarding the merits and consequences of proposed policy settings.
  • Recommend to external decision makers how legislation can be designed and deployed to deliver optimal energy transition outcomes.
  • Orientate bp engagements with industry regulators and opinion formers, helping shape industry messaging, and providing influential stakeholders with information to enable them to form well-founded, fact-based viewpoints.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrate extensive Government Affairs experience, either in-house, a consultancy, or political office.
  • Showcase extensive experience in multi-jurisdiction major project and policy delivery in regulated industries with proven competencies in policy development and advocacy.
  • Exhibit excellent networking capability, inter-personnel, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Evidence a proactive approach to identifying emerging issues.
