Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced animal behaviour specialist to join our team and contribute to the rehoming of retired greyhounds. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of canine behaviour and be able to develop, coordinate, and implement effective behaviour modification programs.

About the Role:

  • Undertake assessments and address behaviour issues in greyhounds using evidence-based programmes
  • Provide training in canine behaviour and handling to staff and volunteers
  • Liaise with foster carers/adoptive owners, veterinary clinics, and other stakeholders regarding greyhound behaviour problems
  • Conduct assessments of greyhounds and face-to-face consultations with foster carers and adoptive owners
  • Maintain day-to-day oversight of volunteers, including dog handling and conducting volunteer inductions and training
  • Review internal behaviour assessment and recording protocols
  • Support colleagues in achieving positive rehoming outcomes and smooth running of operations
  • Assist with event planning and attendance at adoption events, which may require weekend and after-hours work
  • Develop and deliver educational materials on canine behaviour, behaviour modification, enrichment, training, socialisation, welfare, and responsible dog ownership

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of canine behaviour
  • Desirable: qualification in Animal Behaviour or related field
  • Experience in canine behaviour management, including preparing and implementing behaviour modification programmes
  • Experience in shelter environments and canine training using positive reinforcement techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of the greyhound industry
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in work execution
