Job Title: Homelessness Support Specialist
Job Description:
As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting vulnerable individuals and families at risk of homelessness. Your primary responsibility will be to assess clients' living circumstances and develop personalized case plans to secure them suitable long-term housing.
You will work collaboratively with community partners to facilitate connections between clients and the wider community, providing education on homelessness prevention, budgeting, and other relevant topics. Additionally, you will advocate for clients within the housing system, navigate complex processes, and provide tailored support to those in need of safe housing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide case management services for young people, families, and individuals at risk of homelessness
- Advocate for clients within the housing system, including assisting with forms, tenancy support, and navigating complex processes
- Link clients to appropriate services and support to address their broader needs
- Provide education on homelessness prevention, budgeting, and other relevant topics
- Negotiate and work closely with housing services, utility companies, and landlords
- Collaborate with DCJ Housing, community hubs, and partner services to ensure comprehensive support
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and monthly reporting in line with organizational standards
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience managing a caseload autonomously and providing tailored support to clients navigating complex housing or social service systems
- Excellent relationship building skills and existing networks within the local community
- Strong ability to advocate for clients, particularly women, children, and young people
- Trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to client engagement
- Strong communication and analytical skills, including report writing, case notes, and verbal advocacy
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professional boundaries while delivering high-quality client support
- Familiarity with CIMS (Client Information Management System) is an asset
- Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, or a related field
