About the Opportunity

Better Futures aims to support young people transitioning from out-of-home care to adulthood. The program empowers these individuals to have an active voice in their transition planning and provides tailored assistance across life areas, including housing, health and wellbeing, education, employment, and community connections.

The team seeks dedicated professionals who are committed to walking alongside and providing high-quality services to young people leaving care. The Youth Development Coach is responsible for intake and flexible support to young people who are or have been in out-of-home care.

They will engage and support young people to achieve outcomes by providing a level of support offered as part of the Better Futures and Advantaged Thinking Frameworks. Support availability depends on the young person's circumstances and capacity established through intake.

Support is provided in the context of the young person's current care status or after leaving care. The Youth Development Coach works with young people at all support levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide flexible, holistic coaching to young people, aligned with the Advantaged Thinking Framework.
  • Develop and support individualised plans for young people in accordance with guidelines.
  • Work within funding frameworks, program guidelines, and statutory requirements where necessary.
  • Accurately complete and maintain records, reports, case notes, and outcomes in line with funding contracts and best practice guidelines.
  • Promote the program at forums, networks, and community agencies.
  • Administer approved brokerage according to guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development, or similar field.
  • Case management experience, preferably in the youth sector.
  • Knowledge of issues contributing to trauma and disengagement among young people in out-of-home care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working within care teams and key community agencies to support young people.
  • Capacity to develop effective links and partnerships with local communities, networks, and local government.
  • Knowledge of systems and legislation, ability to comply with standards.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse communities and young people experiencing disadvantage.
  • Skills in administration, data entry, and report writing.
  • Understanding of child safety requirements.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Applications.

  • National Police check.
  • Working with Children check.
  • Valid Victorian Drivers license.
  • Right to Work in Australia.
