Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team as an Operational Forecaster.

  • This role involves developing, implementing, and improving forecast models for electricity demand, distributed photovoltaics (PV), and renewable energy generation.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have necessary information.
  • The operational forecaster will also align tools, data, and forecasting processes across teams and markets in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

  • The Operational Support division plays a critical role in real-time electricity system operations across Australia.
  • The Operational Forecasting team within this division is responsible for short-term forecasts that inform operational and market systems in the NEM and WEM.
Responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement, and improve forecast models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, solar farms, and wind farms.
  2. Collaborate with weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts.
  3. Align tools, data, and forecasting processes across teams and markets in the NEM and WEM.
  4. Provide energy and weather insights for operational advisories, incident reviews, and market reports.
  5. Support upgrades to forecasting applications and digital enhancements to improve system performance and reliability.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or related fields.
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, especially in operations, forecasting, or analytics.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in preparing reports and presentations for diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and statistical modeling techniques, including PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, and Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple projects and teams.
