Join us in a dynamic and innovative role where you will play a critical part in the development of cutting-edge forecasting models for electricity demand, distributed photovoltaics (PV), and variable renewable energy generation.

As an Analyst in the Operational Forecasting team, you will work closely with weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the information they need. You will also be responsible for managing operational forecasting models, developing forecast models, and updating inputs, parameters, and variables to reflect system changes and improve performance.

The ideal candidate will possess tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline. Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting, or analytical role, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate technical information to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing forecast models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms, and wind farms
  • Working with AEMO's weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts
  • Coordinating across teams and markets to align tools, data, and forecasting processes between the NEM and WEM
  • Providing energy and weather information and insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews, and market reports

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting, or analytical role
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing high-quality reports and presentations
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modeling techniques
